June 2024
What to Expect at WWDC 2024?
Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is right around the corner, and this year's event promises to be a software showcase. On June 10th to 14th Apple unveils the next generation of its operating systems, with a heavy focus on artificial intelligence (AI).
While WWDC will primarily be an online event, Apple will host a special gathering for developers and students at its Cupertino headquarters on June 10th.
Rumors suggest iOS 18 will be the biggest iPhone update in years, driven by AI integration. Apple is aiming to catch up with competitors in this space, and users can expect a variety of AI-powered features:
Smarter Photos App: Imagine removing unwanted objects from your photos with ease, or having voice memos automatically transcribed.
Enhanced Communication: AI-powered features like suggested replies in emails and messages, and even auto-generated emojis based on your message content, could revolutionize the way you interact with others.
Proactive Assistant: AI-generated summaries of missed notifications and messages. We can expect a smarter Siri that leverages large language models for more natural conversations and personalized experiences.
Streamlined Workflow: Boost your productivity with AI-powered tools like automatic playlist generation on Apple Music, or AI-assisted writing and slide creation in Pages and Keynote. Developers can also look forward to AI code-writing features in Xcode.
iOS 18 isn't just about AI, Apple is reportedly planning a more customizable Home Screen, allowing you to arrange app icons, choose colors, and potentially even create blank spaces for a cleaner look.
Several built-in apps are also getting an upgrade. The Notes, Mail, and Photos apps are expected to benefit from AI integration for editing tasks. Apple Music will curate playlists based on your preferences, and the Maps app might offer features like topographic views and custom route saving.
A long-awaited improvement is finally coming, iOS 18 will reportedly introduce RCS messaging support, allowing for smoother communication between iPhone and Android users.
macOS 15
Many of the AI features coming to iOS 18 are expected to make their way to macOS 15 as well. The name of the new macOS version remains a mystery, though rumors suggest it will continue Apple's tradition of using California landmarks.
What About Other Devices?
New updates for watchOS, tvOS, HomePod software, and visionOS are also on the horizon, but details are limited.
No Hardware This Time Around
According to reports, WWDC 2024 will focus solely on software updates.
With a focus on AI and a more customizable iOS experience, WWDC 2024 promises to be an exciting event for Apple users and developers alike. Stay tuned for the official announcements on June 10th!
